Reach Falls – DownDiRoad Season 3 – The Prelude

Reach Falls – DownDiRoad Season 3 – The Prelude

Hey stranger.... It's been a while. I know you missed DownDiRoad but in life, balance is key. Sometimes a little break is needed, but hey guess what we back again on this rollercoaster ride down di road! The original goal of downdiroad.com was to highlight Jamaican culture, via our travels and adventures throughout the country. Almost a year later, and the goal is still the same. The team & I have been focusing on curating the visual aspects of downdiroad.com, & with that focus three new series' have been introduced to the website and YouTube channel. #downdiroadLIVE, #chippinDownDiRoad & #deTour all happened & the viewers seem to like them a lot. As usual, these ideas were organic and were not planned at all but always remember that diversity is very important to us and downdiroad.com has something for everybody. This past Easter weekend, the crew headed out to Portland. It was fun filled weekend & I decided not to record anything for the...

Jamaica Coffee Festival 2018

Jamaica Coffee Festival 2018

Boom! The Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Festival was the first of it's kind in Jamaica. The three day inaugural event was a celebration of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, curated by the Ministry of Tourism. The downdiroadja squad was in attendance on Day 2, scheduled to be the 'Festival Marketplace' and held at the JDF soldier camp in Newcastle St. Andrew. Based on Newcastle's location and size, the organizers had hourly shuttles which trasported patrons from from UTech to the event ground. The setup was straight forward, with a wide variety of coffee based products and great entertainment (big up The Charles Town Maroons & big up Singy Singy). The coffee products were wide, with patrons choosing from coffee beverages, to coffee infused food, ice cream, facial products, arts and crafts, and a whole bunch more. There was so much it felt like a world-wind sometimes, especially on a coffee high. For it's first staging I think the execution was pretty well done, and...

#chippinDownDiRoad – 2018

Boom! JUMP DAY 2018    So you know downdiroad is culture right? Believe it or not, carnival & soca music is becoming a big part of the Jamaican culture, especially in Kingston & it's environs. With Carnival Sunday looming, we are expected to have a large number of visitors flying in to the capital city for Jamaica's carnival celebrations, and I can tell you first hand that basically all hotels in Kingston have been booked since December. The carnival event & season sees an ever increasing influx of visitors and locals pumping revenue into the economy, from the basic purchase of carnival costumes, right down to event entry fees, hotel bookings, food and transportation costs. Carnival is big business in Jamaica & it's very interesting to note it's ever growing popularity. I have a new thing for the carnival season, called #chippinDownDiRoad where I'll be covering a few events & trying to get some feedback from patrons in regards to their carnival experiences and...

The idea for Rasta Taco was created by founder Mario "Maji" Melendez in November 2006 while on vacation in Jamaica. Mario who is Mexican was surprised that there were no tacos at any of the local jerk spots. He went home and worked on his idea, later founding Rasta Taco, Inc. & shortly...

Tsojourna – Remembering The Battle of Awda

Greetings massive!   It's been a busy few weeks! Reggae Month was in February, so the team & I headed out to a few events. The headline act had a few special guests to perform with him as well. With names like NoMaddz, Blvk H3ro, Samory-I & Naomi Cowan, not to mention Runkus & Royal Blu who performed the new single 'Crazy Over You' with Ras-I, just know that it was a night to remember! Dubwise Jamaica – David Rodigan’s 40th Anniversary

Dubwise Jamaica – David Rodigan’s 40th Anniversary

BRAND NEW #downdiroadLIVE!       On Saturday February 10th - 2018, droves of fans came out to celebrate the 40th anniversary of David 'Ramjam' Rodigan coming to Jamaica and falling in love with her Reggae music. 10A West King's House Road was the location, the former home of Mr. Perry Henzell who is most famous for directing 'The Harder They Come.' If you're unfamiliar with Rodigan and his work, the British dj has had a special affair with dancehall and reggae music over his long career. Most famous for his radio broadcasts and sound clashes, Rodigan has earned his respect as one of the greatest Reggae & Dancehall selectors of all time, possibly due to his many dubplates and how he approaches his delivery of the music. To celebrate this great milestone, David brought with him the young powerhouse and co-founder of Dubwise; Yaadcore, as well as his close friend; legendary producer King Jammys. It was a night to remember, as our music and energy filled...

New Wave – Music Night

New Wave – Music Night

Yo! It's Reggae Month & New Wave is back! Check out #downdiroadLIVE - NEW WAVE right here! Described as a "creative platform for emerging local talents," New Wave will be held every Monday night in February at The Cove Restaurant and Bar on Winchester Road in Kingston. The first staging was held on Monday February 5th & downdiroad.com was in the building! Dubbed as 'Music Night' it was a great first staging, and the vibe was right! Dj Drumline & Dj Stamma were in charge of the musical selections for the night, but to my surprise here was also a special closing set from international dj Becca Dudley straight out of the UK! On the performance side of things, we had the young star Koffee kick off the proceedings with a rousing performance. At just 17 years old, believe me she is one to look out for. Agent Sasco rolled through as well and as expected, he shelledd it down with a mixture of...

Curry Par – Curried goat at Moby Dick x Sharmz x Murray’s

Watch the NEW episode of #DownDiRoad below, but continue reading for the photo gallery, and more info on Moby Dick, Sharmz & Murray's.  BOOM! Wah gwaahn?!? Remember when we were supposed to go on a food journey? We kinda took a wrong turn along the way, but these things happen when a Jamaican tells you "yea man, just gwaahn down di road!" So quick and fast let me tell you what this adventure is all about.   Being "out of many one people," results in Jamaica having a melting pot of food and worldwide cultural influences. Curry goat and curry in general is a favourite among Jamaicans. 8 times out of 10 when I get myself a boxfood, I'm asking for curry goat gravy on it. With a strong Indian background and influence, curry is just a thing that us Jamaicans have adopted into our food culture. Now I don't call myself a foodie, however I am cultured enough to have tried a wide range of cuisines. Curry...

SOUTH COAST! – BLACK RIVER SAFARI, PELICAN BAR & JACK SPRAT @ JAKES

Yowwwwww! St. Elizabeth, Jamaica! I didn't familiarize myself with the parish affectionately called St. Bess until 2017 on a drive out to Negril. The south coast of Jamaica is a gem of beauty I tell you! It's the last #DownDiRoad with Sasha (*thug tears*). We went to St. Elizabeth for the day & made a few stops. J. Charles Swaby's Black River Safari - sick tour of the Black River with nufff crocodiles & wild birds! Floyd's Pelican Bar - the famous bar made of stilted driftwood, located in the middle of the Parottee Bay. Very "wavvyyy" Jack Sprat Seafood & Pizza - The famous restaurant at Jakes Hotel in Treasure Beach This was truly one of the best days I've had since the start of 2018. I love St. Elizabeth.
