Curry Par – Curried goat at Moby Dick x Sharmz x Murray’s

Watch the NEW episode of #DownDiRoad below, but continue reading for the photo gallery, and more info on Moby Dick, Sharmz & Murray's.  BOOM! Wah gwaahn?!? Remember when we were supposed to go on a food journey? We kinda took a wrong turn along the way, but these things happen when a Jamaican tells you "yea man, just gwaahn down di road!" So quick and fast let me tell you what this adventure is all about.   Being "out of many one people," results in Jamaica having a melting pot of food and worldwide cultural influences. Curry goat and curry in general is a favourite among Jamaicans. 8 times out of 10 when I get myself a boxfood, I'm asking for curry goat gravy on it. With a strong Indian background and influence, curry is just a thing that us Jamaicans have adopted into our food culture. Now I don't call myself a foodie, however I am cultured enough to have tried a wide range of cuisines. Curry...

SOUTH COAST! – BLACK RIVER SAFARI, PELICAN BAR & JACK SPRAT @ JAKES

SOUTH COAST! – BLACK RIVER SAFARI, PELICAN BAR & JACK SPRAT @ JAKES

Yowwwwww! St. Elizabeth, Jamaica! I didn't familiarize myself with the parish affectionately called St. Bess until 2017 on a drive out to Negril. The south coast of Jamaica is a gem of beauty I tell you! It's the last #DownDiRoad with Sasha (*thug tears*). We went to St. Elizabeth for the day & made a few stops. J. Charles Swaby's Black River Safari - sick tour of the Black River with nufff crocodiles & wild birds! Floyd's Pelican Bar - the famous bar made of stilted driftwood, located in the middle of the Parottee Bay. Very "wavvyyy" Jack Sprat Seafood & Pizza - The famous restaurant at Jakes Hotel in Treasure Beach This was truly one of the best days I've had since the start of 2018. I love St. Elizabeth. The #DownDiRoad squad will be spending a weekend at some point in 2018!   Watch EP 7 of #DownDiRoad Season 2 titled - SOUTH COAST - and check out a few images of the day's adventure! -Doofy   [Picho time!]  ...

The Longboarder – Surfer’s Paradise

The Longboarder – Surfer’s Paradise

Boom! Another week another adventure! Check out the newest episode of #DownDiRoad below, but please stay for the full story & photo gallery of our adventure.   When last have you been somewhere new? Are you living your best life? I think I've been doing pretty well at new things, but there is so much room for more. At one point in my life I used to make New Year's resolutions, but these days I like to make LIFE resolutions. I mean, why wait when you know what you want? One of my recent life resolutions is to simply, 'do more.' I don't pride myself on material objects. I have nice things but I'd much rather to spend my money on new experiences. If you've been following this website & my #DownDiRoad web-series, you might realize that I have a very close knit group of friends. There's one friend who's been missing, the 'sellest-of-outs' who migrated almost two years ago. You either hate her or love her...

HIP STRIP – PORK PIT & STARBUCKS

HIP STRIP – PORK PIT & STARBUCKS

Wah gwaahn my side?!? So yea one more #DownDiRoad this time we went to Mobay. Well actually, we went to pick up a friend from the airport & his flight was cancelled so rather than call it a day wasted, we made the most of it! If you're ever in Mobay please go to the Pork Pit! And last but not least, Starbucks! A lot of talk has been made about Starbucks, but in my opinion I think it's a good move. It's all local based coffee, and it's adding foreign exchange to our economy I have no qualms.  Thanks for the support & remember to subscribe to the Youtube channel   CHECK OUT #DOWNDIROAD EPISODE 4 - 'HIP STRIP' RIGHT HERE! Tessellated & Friends – The Vibes LIVE

Tessellated & Friends – The Vibes LIVE

#downdiroadLIVE - TESSELLATED & FRIENDS   Waddup peeps?!? Long time no see!  You must be living under a rock if you've never heard the song 'Pine & Ginger.' If you don't start humming along to the melody when you hear "me a drink pine & ginger! 🎶" blasting through a speaker what are you even doing bro??? Last Friday on December 15th, the young collaborators Tessellated, Amindi K. Fro$t and Valleyz made their debut performance to a sold out 700+ crowd at the Barbican Beach Bar. It's both crazy & fulfilling to know that their first performance of this song together, was in Jamaica before the home crowd which inspired the song the most. When I first heard about this show I made it a point of duty to be in attendance, especially since I missed the Chronixx concert a few weeks ago because ALL pre-sold & promised gate tickets were SOLD OUT dayssss before. The event dubbed "Tessellated & Friends - The Vibes LIVE," was a...

Life Yard – The Heart of Fleet Street

Life Yard – The Heart of Fleet Street

You can view the newest episode of #DownDiRoad right below, but I implore you to stay and read the article as well as view the photo gallery! Fleet Street, Parade Gardens, Kingston Jamaica. If someone mentioned the community of Parade Gardens a few years ago, if you even knew of it you’d probably just associate it with that one word…. “ghetto.” I mean, based on the socio-economical conditions that determine a community falling in that category, Parade Gardens fits the description, but what you need to realize is that this community is a ghetto paradise. There are a group of young men who grew up in the community, and they decided that they were going to take their lives into their own hands. They wouldn’t let the crime & violence define them or the community and they would breathe life into the community, so that's what they did and Life Yard was born.   Life Yard as defined by it’s members is a social enterprise, the...

Crêpes with Trace – Tea Tree Crêperie

Crêpes with Trace – Tea Tree Crêperie

So boom, Tea Tree Crêperie & Treehouse Bar! Tea Tree I have to say is a very nice spot off Lady Musgrave Road in Kingston. As the name suggests, Tea Tree specializes in crêpes. They describe themselves just like this; "Tea Tree Crêperie & Treehouse Pub is a Cordon Bleu style Hot Spot and the first of its kind in Jamaica. Though we specialize in amazing sweet & savoury crêpes, we offer an incredibly varied menu that includes classic breakfasts, gluten-free as well as vegan delights, tantalizing desserts, quiche, salads, Blue Mountain coffee drinks, blended and specialty drinks, top shelf offerings and many more hearty goodies by Chef Maree and the team." For those of you who don't know what a crêpe is, it's a very thin pastry item, usually made from wheat flour or buckwheat flour. Think of it as a super thin pancake that you can wrap or stuff with either sweet or savory fillings & toppings. I went to Tea Tree with...

MEET STREET! – A NIGHT AT THE JA FOOD & DRINK FESTIVAL

MEET STREET! – A NIGHT AT THE JA FOOD & DRINK FESTIVAL

Greetings & salutations jenkle people!! Food Food Food! The third staging of the week long Jamaica Food & Drink festival has come to a close and based on the reviews on social media, it looks like it was a hit! The festival consisted of 7 events, but the team and I only made it out to Meet Street which we have done every year since the inception of the festival. Personally, it's a joy to see the growth of local brands as the years progress, and it's great that the organizers have created a festival like this with different themed events catering to people from all walks of life. This year's staging of Meet Street was held at the Waterfront in Downtown, Kingston and let me tell you I think this was the best one yet. So here's the rundown. When it started, Meet Street event was originally billed as one which highlighted food trucks, but this year the theme was "Meet Street...

Heaven & Hearth – Small Par at Mahogany Tree Bar

Boom! Welcome to downdiroad.com! Maybe it's your first time here, maybe you come every week, but welcome same way! Wah gwaahn? You good? How you stay? Big up and thanks for stopping by!   So here's the deal. I'm about to go on a journey. A gastronomical journey. In the next few weeks downdiroad will be featuring a few eateries and sharing our findings with the masses. Without saying too much, Devon House will be one of the featured stops and I did a bit of scouting earlier this week on the property. I made a stop at one of the establishments on the property, so here's a little mini review of my Mahogany Tree Bar experience.     So Mahogany Tree Bar; this was my second time coming here. The first encounter wasn't so pleasant and let's just say I ended up leaving before I even ordered anything. I believe in second chances though, so I decided I'd give them a chance because it's so close to...
