Popcaan – Forever Album Launch

Popcaan – Forever Album Launch

It's the summer time & a lot of artistes have been dropping projects for the masses. Enter one called Andre Sutherland, aka Popcaan - the Unruly boss. Poppy just released his sophomore album titled 'Forever' and to celebrate, he held a listening party in collaboration with BoilerroomTV (Boiler Room is a global online music broadcasting platform commissioning and streaming live music sessions around the world).   The event brought out droves of dancehall fans and took the form of a street dance in New Kingston. The dancers were out, the vibe was right, and Poppy came through with his whole Unruly squad to take over the stage and sing along to some of the new songs on the album.  downdiroad.com was in the building and captured some of the moments through picture & video. Check out a few images from the launch below as well as the newest edition of #downdiroadLIVE!   #downdiroadLIVE - Popcaan - Forever Album Launch !   Until the next one. Peace! -DOOF   Popcaan...

Protoje – A Matter of Time Album Launch

Protoje – A Matter of Time Album Launch

Greetings massive! It's been a while since we put out a #downdiroadLIVE video, so after the long wait, check out the newest works.  A Matter of Time - Album Launch So boom! Real quick; Protoje has a new album out! Passed through the album launch last weekend and it was a really good vibe with great energy. It really felt like a listening party, with the artiste going through track by track and playing each lyric video and giving each individual director a big up. My favourite take away from the event was the lighting set up and Land Rover partnership. It really added to the aesthetic of the venue set up. It was a full house, and big ups to Protoje & the New Wave for being able to make this event free. If you haven't heard his album yet go check it, very good production & nice reggae vibes. Bigs ups to all the viewers/readers & thank you for the...

Bob Marley Beach

Bob Marley Beach

Boom blast! Another weekend another adventure! The brand new episode of #DownDiRoad is now available for your viewing pleasure!   #DownDiRoad Episode 3 - Bob Marley Beach So this week we head out to a very low key beach in St. Thomas called Bob Marley beach. It's mostly traversed by surfers, local fishermen & local kids of St. Thomas, but it is still a great alternative for Kingstonians looking for a beach outside of Portmore. They say Bob Marley used to hang out here in his early days & that's how it got it's name. It's pretty easy to find once you pass the Harbour View roundabout, you drive about 8 - 10 minutes into Bull Bay & look for the sign on the right side of the road (Google maps is your friend). Once you take that right turn, it's one straight shot over the bridge & through the seaside community towards the beach. The beachside is huge & the mountain backdrop...

Backyard Waterfalls – Penfield Falls

Greetings massive! Another week another adventure! This week we took a trod out to the Penfield district in Gordon Town, St. Andrew. There we found a beautiful community river that has been a hidden gem for many Kingstonians over the years. It's very easy to find. Once you pass Papine & head up into Gordon Town, you keep straight pass the police station & it's about a five - ten minute drive from there. [Always ask directions if you are unsure] After you find parking on the road side, there is probably a five - ten minute walk depending on your pace, and boom there you have it! Check out our adventure on Episode 2 of #DownRiRoad & stay tuned for more! #DOWNDIROAD SEASON 3 - EPISODE 2 - BACKYARD WATERFALLS   PHOTO GALLERY  ...

Reach Falls – DownDiRoad Season 3 – The Prelude

Hey stranger.... It's been a while. I know you missed DownDiRoad but in life, balance is key. Sometimes a little break is needed, but hey guess what we back again on this rollercoaster ride down di road! The original goal of downdiroad.com was to highlight Jamaican culture, via our travels and adventures throughout the country. Almost a year later, and the goal is still the same. The team & I have been focusing on curating the visual aspects of downdiroad.com, & with that focus three new series' have been introduced to the website and YouTube channel. #downdiroadLIVE, #chippinDownDiRoad & #deTour all happened & the viewers seem to like them a lot. As usual, these ideas were organic and were not planned at all but always remember that diversity is very important to us and downdiroad.com has something for everybody. This past Easter weekend, the crew headed out to Portland. It was fun filled weekend & I decided not to record anything for the...

Jamaica Coffee Festival 2018

Jamaica Coffee Festival 2018

Boom! The Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Festival was the first of it's kind in Jamaica. The three day inaugural event was a celebration of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, curated by the Ministry of Tourism. The downdiroadja squad was in attendance on Day 2, scheduled to be the 'Festival Marketplace' and held at the JDF soldier camp in Newcastle St. Andrew. Based on Newcastle's location and size, the organizers had hourly shuttles which trasported patrons from from UTech to the event ground. The setup was straight forward, with a wide variety of coffee based products and great entertainment (big up The Charles Town Maroons & big up Singy Singy). The coffee products were wide, with patrons choosing from coffee beverages, to coffee infused food, ice cream, facial products, arts and crafts, and a whole bunch more. There was so much it felt like a world-wind sometimes, especially on a coffee high. For it's first staging I think the execution was pretty well done, and...

#chippinDownDiRoad – 2018

Boom! JUMP DAY 2018    So you know downdiroad is culture right? Believe it or not, carnival & soca music is becoming a big part of the Jamaican culture, especially in Kingston & it's environs. With Carnival Sunday looming, we are expected to have a large number of visitors flying in to the capital city for Jamaica's carnival celebrations, and I can tell you first hand that basically all hotels in Kingston have been booked since December. The carnival event & season sees an ever increasing influx of visitors and locals pumping revenue into the economy, from the basic purchase of carnival costumes, right down to event entry fees, hotel bookings, food and transportation costs. Carnival is big business in Jamaica & it's very interesting to note it's ever growing popularity. I have a new thing for the carnival season, called #chippinDownDiRoad where I'll be covering a few events & trying to get some feedback from patrons in regards to their carnival experiences and...

In this adventure we head out to Ochi town & we are featuring three very interesting establishments, all poised for greatness.   Stop 1 - Rasta Taco Stop one lead us to Island Village Plaza, where we checked out "Jamaica's first taco joint," Rasta Taco. The idea for Rasta Taco was created by founder Mario "Maji" Melendez in November 2006 while on vacation in Jamaica. Mario who is Mexican was surprised that there were no tacos at any of the local jerk spots. He went home and worked on his idea, later founding Rasta Taco, Inc. & shortly...
